Stella McCartney’s 2011 citrus prints were the talk of Paris Fashion Week that season. Miuccia Prada channeled Josephine Baker’s famous banana skirt for her. Stella Jean made her Milan Fashion Week debut for the Spring 2014 season with a collection that referenced her Haitian heritage—tropical fruits included. Bertrand Guyon’s Spring 2016 haute couture collection for Schiaparelli.
The All About Fruit Challenge
For this week’s challenge, the designers were asked to design one or two patterns using the brief of All about fruit style following trends for women’s wear S/S Season 2020. This week’s response has again been amazing we have seen a fabulous array of stunning fruit prints, the designers have worked really hard to create some wonderful fruit patterns using their own creative style.
The Winner – Josephine Walz
Josephine Walz is an artist textile print and fashion designer, based in Cologne, Germany. She studied fashion design at Hochschule für Gestaltung in Pforzheim and worked in the international fashion industry. In 2010 she founded BRASEdesign studio for fashion and textile design, where Josephine loves to create hand-painted prints. Her design methods visit tradition and contemporary with confidence. Josephine is an expert in hand-drawn, painterly, computer manipulated and collaged techniques. She is obsessed with color, trend and fashion patterns and aims to put this passion to work by providing a fresh perspective in designs.
Josephine’s design was created by hand sketching the fruits and then coloring with watercolors to give a lovely vibrant feel to her print. Josephine has used a choice of colors from the brief and cleverly placed the fruit to create an all-over tossed effect pattern, the mixed fruit motifs really stand out well on various colored backgrounds, featured here on women’s tee shirts, tops, dresses, and bags, but we could easily see this print on swimwear, bedding, curtains, and wallpaper.
