Design challenge week Ten. The surface pattern marketplace sends out a weekly design challenge to all creative designers that have joined their marketplace. The weekly design challenge is a great way to really test their creativity and skills. By accepting the challenge they then have to create a design in their handwriting, giving their own interpretation of the challenge.

This week they decided the challenge on a recent Milan Fashion Show, exhibiting some amazing marble patterns for women’s wear Summer Sun 2020 Season.
Marbling Fabric Design
Marbling is no longer limited to traditional applications. Today, it’s used to create artwork, fine papers, and fabric designs. Part of the beauty of marbling is that no two finished pieces are exactly alike, as the Turks discovered centuries ago. Textile artist Natalie Stopka, who creates marbled works and teaches workshops on large scale fabric marbling, says, “Marbling is a very expressive art. Each print is the culmination of a tiny performance in which the artist interacts with a fluid medium, revealing their temperament. Whether you are a fastidious craftsperson or relish experimentation, the marbling process will manifest your hand and aesthetic.”

Monica is a Surface and Textile Pattern designer with 10 years of experience in designing high-resolution patterns for wallpapers, textiles, home furnishings, and footwear. She also has experience in Dye- sublimation and latex printing which gives her a unique perspective on how designs are translated into print. Her designs which are created on Adobe Photoshop are based on the current & future trends. Colour options and variations in designs can be done wherever possible.
Monicas pattern was created in photoshop, using a creative process of filters and colours she was able to mix all the colour elements of this weeks design challenge and create this pattern. Monica has created this fabulous colourful marbling design that has been featured on various mock-ups. It looks wild on the wallpaper, and fabulous on activewear, women or men’s apparel, bedding, cushions, clothes or even as phone covers or a piece of art for your wall.
