The Stylised Floral Challenge
Design challenge week nine. The surface pattern marketplace sends out a weekly design challenge to all creative designers that have joined their marketplace. The weekly design challenge is a great way to really test their creativity and skills. By accepting the challenge they then have to create a design in their handwriting, giving their own interpretation of the challenge.
The Floral Ink Pattern
Each week the surface pattern marketplace chooses a topic that is relevant or has recently been in the fashion or home interiors blogs or trend news.
Pen & Ink Floral Design
This week they decided the challenge on a recent London Fashion Show, exhibiting some amazing pen and ink floral patterns for women’s wear Winter 19/20 Season.
The Flower Power of the 20th Century & Contemporary Floral Patterns
In the 20th and, especially the 21st century, the classic pen and ink floral motifs can be incorporated not only into garments but also in headgear and footwear. In the 20th century, the popularity of a particular flower is not noticeable. Rather, it is about the wave of popularity for floral patterns in the broader sense. However, some big trends, such as the “Flower Power” in the ’60s or tropical flower pen and ink designs of the ’50s and ’80s, and even floral leggings of the millennials, were significant indicators of their time.
The Stylised Floral Challenge
This weeks challenge the designers were asked to design one or two patterns using the brief of Stylised Florals following trends for women’s wear Fall 19/20 print trends. This week’s response has again been amazing, and the designers have worked really hard to create some wonderful floral patterns using pen and ink effects.
