What to do with your children during the COVID 19 lockdown – Potato Printing.
Most of you will be found at a loss as to what to do with your children in these strange and testing times.
Keeping Children Entertained During The COVID 19 Lockdown
Potato Printing
Find a suitable baking sized potatoes in your vegetable rack or box, wash and cut in half. Clear the kitchen table and cover with newspaper or a wipe proof cover.
Imagination with Potato Paints
Find some old paints that your children have accumulated around the house, or they could be your own personal set if you are a crafter or painter for use with potato printing.
Let’s Get Creative
Get an adult to help your children cut the potato into the design they want.
- Step 1 – Cut the potato into the desired pattern.
- Step 2 – Pat the potato dry with a kitchen towel.
- Step 3 – Use a wet paintbrush to colour the potato.
- Step 4 – Get your child to firmly press the potato onto the paper.
- Step 5 – Lift the potato carefully from the paper.
- Step 6 – Repeat with different colours to make an all-over pattern – Remembering to dry the potato between each print.
Easter Potato Printing Fun
And an old vegetable knife, or a knife that is blunt, so the children don’t hurt themselves. Spread the table with some paper, if you don’t have any white paper then use the newspaper to print on ready for their potato printing.

Get your children to design a pattern using their potato printing, it could be for an easter egg above or anything that they would like to design, such as a beautiful butterfly below.
Creative Doodling
The world is their oyster, as they say, they can doodle or cut out chunks to design a pattern on the paper, anything goes in this task of potato printing and the kids have fun, that’s what this is all about keeping them entertained during the lockdown.
